Fabulous fresh seafood with style on the beach

Directions: On the beach in Marina di Campo

For our last lunch on Elba I had my heart set on eating a fine meal right on the beach. I found what I was looking for in Ristorante La Lucciola. As you enter, you come upon a giant tank filled with the freshest of lobsters, crabs, langostinos and all sorts of sea creatures. The restaurant is open-air and we were seated right by the sea. We started by sharing a cold seafood salad which was a simply marinated combination of calamari, polpe, and gamberi. The freshness of the seafood shined in the simple but elegant preparation. Then I had a risotto di frutta di mare--perfectly done risotto with a variety of shellfish. My husband had a lasagnette verdue which was an extremely light concoction. With two glasses of the house white (which was a wonderful Ceretto Lange--actually a Piedmontese white, not local!) the bill came to 40.

Our only regret was that we weren't able to come back another time for dinner to try some of the fabulous looking lobster and crab.
