This small, inviting trattoria specializes in the cooking of the Maremma, but also features favorites from other parts of Italy

I passed by this restaurant on the way to the Bancomat every day for three days in a row. On one chilly night, my mother and I decided to give it a try. The walls of La Maremma are deep red, with black accents throughout the room. The Tuscan cowboy decor, which featured a huge saddle hanging from the ceiling, gives a comfy, casual feel.
Our waiter was especially kind, answering all of our questions and selecting a glass of Chianti for me off the wine list. My mother started with Ribollita, which was exceptionally good. There were many interesting pastas to choose from on the menu, as well as some specials which were recited with care. I selected a chestnut fazzoletti - an "ill-formed square" of chestnut pasta filled with pumpkin and sausage, folded over, then gratineed. The breaded, fried lamb chops were fantastic, as was a light-as-air battered and fried chicken breast served with "verdure misti." I noticed a huge Bistecca passing by on its way to a neighboring table. Dessert was a light and delicious berry-flavored panna cotta.
If I lived in the neighborhood, I would be a regular at La Maremma!
