This restaurant was the favorite of our entire trip. We dined here at the suggestion of Federico of Villa Margherita. It was such an enjoyable experience, it's difficult to know where to begin describing it! We were greeted at the door by Massimo - the owner as well as the chef. Massimo is quite a character - he could probably pass for Gerard Depardieu's brother. He and his girlfriend were the only staff the evening we were there and I'm not sure if he has additonal help on nights the restaurant is busier. There are only six tables in the main area and maybe four more in a little loft-type area. We were presented with hand-lettered parchment scrolls that contained the menu. For our antipasti we shared the crab cocktail. Lots of crab with just the right amount of delicious sauce and pomegranate seeds sprinkled on top. Wonderful presentation. We both chose the Filetto al pepe verde from the secondi menu. This was prepared table-side with a flambe finish. Massimo cooked them both to perfection; Tom's medium and mine rare. He explained that the green pepper sauce is his own recipe - one that I would love to have. We shared a insalate mista. For dessert I chose the Crepes Suzette and Tom had the Pesche flambe con gelato. Again, both desserts were prepared table-side with a flambe finish. We went with Massimo's recommendation for wine which was a nice Montelpulciano Red D'Abruzzo. We dined here on a Sunday evening and were the only non-Italians. There are only about 10 tables in the entire restaurant, so I suggest that you make reservations. Total price was 86 euros for the two of us. We felt was a very fair price given the fantastic food, wonderful atmosphere and Massimo's entertainment factor! This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
