Based on the other review I read here I expected a much more casual place. Instead we entered a very elegant but comfortable place which kind of reminded me of a boardroom atmosphere, dark wood, etc. Everything was great from beginning to end. We had several courses concentrating on mushrooms. I had a roast that was slow cooked for 18 hours as well. Excellent service, great wine list, very helpful waiter. (My wife thought he was an owner; I am not so sure. Maybe we should have asked.) If this restaurant were in my hometown it would be the sort of place to go on special occasions. We spent {the equivalent of} about US$100 without wine and $60 on a nice bottle of Brunello. Reviewed by: Monica from CO, review #409 When: 2002
Directions: In the small town of Pescina on Mt. Amiata. It is signposted on the road from Seggiano. Worst case, follow the signs to Pescina; it's on the main intersection. It's open for lunch & dinner. They take major credit cards. Our waiter spoke excellent English. The food was elegant and delicious. Standouts were a mushroom salad with shaved parmesan, dressed with lemon & olive oil; homemade pastas (we voted their ravioli the best we've ever eaten). Atmosphere was casually elegant, furnishings antique but not too stuffy, fancy, or rustic. There are flowers and candles on the tables, botanic mushroom prints on the walls. We were there for lunch midweek & there were only 2 other tables full (probably a different story on weekends or evenings). I think we paid {the equivalent of} around $100 for 4, but that was with several courses. It was still a good value. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
