Panzano: Solo Ciccia

Eating here is a unique, good and fun dining experience--unlike any place you have been to before. This is Dario's, the master butcher of Panzano, dining palace.

Directions: Across from Antica Macelleria Cecchini--Dario's

Solo Ciccia celebrates meat; what else from a butcher. The name means "only meat" (well, technically fat.) And meat is what you will eat along with a cameo appearance of vegetables. You will not choose your meats but will enjoy what is set before you, from antipasti to dolce to fun and laughter in great abundance.

Dario's restaurant has 3 levels each with a communal table. Tables are shared with other guests unless you have a large enough party to fill a table yourself. It is more fun if you go with friends, but if that is not feasible, go anyway. You will be able to make friends during the meal.

The night we went we were with Slow Travel friends which made it even more special, particularly after one of us announced to the waiter that she was a vegetarian. He truly panicked until Tina from Tennessee explained she was really just kidding.

The menu that night was: Piatto d'ingresso Fritto di'macellaio, crostini di sugo inzuppati, ramerino in culo

Arrosto fiorentino Tenerumi in salsa verde Brasato al midollo Arosto morto

Fagioli all'olio Stufato di'signor Pelliccia

Vino (quarter litre per person) pane di panzano acqua caffe e torta

At the close of the meal a huge assortment of bottles of after dinner liquers was set on the table.

Dario's brochure reads in part: This is not a restaurant. It is the home of a butcher. All that you will eat is the fruit of my work and that of my family.

You will not choose from a menu, though you will be treated well and with great respect,if you return the favor.

But, please be aware that everything: the food, the wine, the space and we ourselves, are for better or worse..thoroughly Tuscan. Welcome (if you dare!)

There are two seatings Thursday, Friday and Saturday--19:00 and 21:00 and one at 13:00 on Sunday. I would recommend making reservations, however, the person who answers the phone is limited in English so either practice your italiano or get someone to make the reservation for you.

Enjoy and have fun here! You can bring your own wine for no corkage fee but the wine he serves is quite good.
