Lido: Star People Bar

Via Persato

Closing day: Thursday

Reviewed by: rkorchid from NH, review #2738

When: 2007

Delightful, friendly local, inexpensive cafe/bar on the Lido.

Directions: On a side street half a block off Viale Elisabetta.

The three of us discovered this place on our first night on the Lido and it became our regular evening hangout for a week in October, 2007. Looking for a place to have coffee and grappa we passed on several of the upscale places along the viale Elisabetta. We spotted the illuminated German beer sign down a side street and stumbled upon what seemed at first like a roughneck workingman's bar. It turned out to be delightful neighborhood establishment.

Only open in the evening until the wee hours it is an espresso bar with beer, wine, alcohol, and excellent panini.

Most nights we sat outside at the sidewalk tables before or after dinner (often both). The barman was quite friendly and teased us after we waved to him from our rented bicycles early one evening. Most of the regulars were watching the Italian version of 'Millionaire' when we came in.
