Friendly, inexpensive trattoria with good pasta and fish

The husband and wife owners of this cozy restaurant make their pasta fresh daily and excell at very fresh fish dishes. I did not try their fish soup but it looked very appetizing at a neighboring table. Jim had the pesto and nut sauce that was excellent and I really enjoyed swordfish cooked Ligurian style in a tomato sauce with olives. It was served with some very delicious thinly sliced potatoes. They are also known for their grilled sole and frito misto de pesce. Trattoria Baicin offers a tourist fixed price menu for 20E, which provides for a nice sampling of their specalties. I think we had the house wine that was fine but also remember a decent wine list. Worth a stop if you're in Santa Margherita.

When: 2001

We wandered into this trattoria for lunch one day before starting on a hike and were glad we did.

Because we were hiking, we didnít want a large lunch, so just ordered soup and a salad. My husband ordered their seafood soup which turned out to be a huge bowl with mussels, prawns, and several other types of fish. It was more than he could eat! I had minestrone which was also good. The service was friendly and helpful. There is a small area for eating outside too.
