Great food, great service, great price!

This Bologna restaurant lived up to its “Bologna” reputation. We just drove off the Autostrada (A 1), and asked someone along the road for directions to a good restaurant, for lunch. We were directed to Trattoria Boni.

The food was delicious, but our poor Italian led us astray when we first ordered an appetizer. We wanted some of the delicious olive oil to dip the bread in that they had brought to our table. Obviously something got lost in the translation when the waiter said, “We have never received such a request. I’ll have to go ask what to charge, for I don’t know.” He quickly disappeared before I had the courage to ask questions about what in the world we had accidentally ordered. We sat there wondering what would appear, somewhat afraid, but not really. (You can imagine I’m sure.) He finally appeared with apologies for taking so long, a set upon our table — a bowl of green olives! He was so nice and humble about it that we didn’t want to tell him otherwise, so set about trying to eat all of the olives, so as not to disappoint him. (In America, can you imagine trying not to disappoint your waiter over a mistake?)

We had a Tagliatelle Ragu, Tortellini en Brodo, Pollo Lambrusco, Cotoletta Bolo---, Stagionale of (vegetables), Pere cotte Crema, Dolci Della Casa—all delicious!

Later we met the owner and discovered he traveled to New York to lead cooking classes once a year; we feel for good reasons!

We were just so happy to luck upon such a great find and we hope you do too.
