A refuge from the noise and bustle of Firenze within easy walking distance of the heart of the city and the Ponte Vecchio

Directions: In Piazza Santo Spirito, Oltrarno. Just off Via dell'Orto and a short couple of blocks from the Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens

The noise and traffic in the center of Firenze can be overwhelming, and while it is also fun, it is not easy to find a place on a piazza without cars, where you can eat either inside or out, and yet be within a five minute walk of virtually every museum, church, bridge, and palace in the heart of the city.

The pizza and calzones are very good, particularly if you are a fan of the thin crust variety. Very crisp, and table service includes a selection of olives and breads. We had a pizza with spicy salame and eggplant, a salad, and a calzone. Each was a full meal by itself. The salad was loaded with a variety of fresh greens, tomatoes, and other crisp veggies.

The service is more than competent - the waiters and waitresses are friendly and go out of their way to be accommodating. While we chose to eat at the pleasant tables, sheltered under canvas awnings, the inside looked quite attractive as well. While the piazza certainly is no visual match for Piazza della Signoria, it is a lot less crowded, less expensive, and less noisy, and Chiesa Santo Spirito makes a nice backdrop.

There were two of us for the lunch described above. We did not have wine with our meal, but including the acqua minerale the bill came to 24 euros.
