Our favorite countryside restaurant in the Assisi area.

Directions: From Assisi take SS 147 towards Perugia. As soon as you exit the town of Assisi, turn right at Ponte di San Vetturino, direction Pieve San Nicolo', Paganzano, Valfabbrica. The restaurant is 7km/15 min. drive from the bridge.

This is our absolute favorite place for when we want a simple but delicious meal in an unpretentious setting.

The Trattoria is completely off the beaten track, so caters mostly to locals and to lovers of the marvelous countryside of this area. Tonight we had an ideal winter meal: lovely “hand-made” meat cappelletti in a beef stock with shavings of white truffle, melt-in-the-mouth grilled veal, feather like apple pie made by the cook’s mom.

We go regularly for both the black and white truffle dishes, as the truffle is virtually always fresh and very moderately priced, but they also have good crostini, game such as wild boar and deer, tender lamb grilled on the wood coals. There is also a small selection of vegetarian dishes, like tagliolini with zucchini veloute or artichokes.

The drive to the restaurant is very beautiful, so it makes a good lunch stop, maybe on the way to Gubbio via Valfabbrica. Average price with house wine is €25 per person.
