A warm and welcoming neighborhood trattoria in the heart of Ascoli Piceno

It was Sunday and we had committed the cardinal sin of not reserving for the all important Sunday lunch. But some things are meant to happen and we loved finding this unexpected pleasure. It is nothing fancy and has several televisions mounted strategically in corners broadcasting things like soccer and soaps. Our lunch for 3 persons follows.

Wine-1999 Rosso Piceno Boccadigabbia

Antipasto-A plate of prosciutto, salami made with fennel and bresaola A bowl of fagioli A plate of polenta with tomato sauce Olive Ascolani (I have written about these olives in 3 other reviews-check them out, please!) A round wooden platter filled with four types of sausages (one quite spicy, called diavolo) and a sheep's milk cheese from Puglia

Pasta- There were 3 choices that day. We all chose the same one which was served family style. It was a ravioli stuffed with ricotta and spinach, sauced with a little cream, black truffle and sausage.

Secondo-Two of us had a filleto di vitello, covered with fresh porcini. The other diner had a grilled veal chop. The contorno was mixed grilled vegetables and a insalata mista. Again, served family style.

Dessert-Fragolini, tiny little woodland strawberries. The owner must have felt we were still hungry, so he brought us a crostata made with fig jam.

Espresso and anisette to finish.

I don't have the bill, but we considered it to be extremely reasonable.
