Garessio/Mursco: Trattoria Marsupino

di Marsupino Pier Bincenzo & C. Via Roma, 20, Briaglia , Phone: 0174-563888

When: 2001

It has won several awards, but is in a very small town not close to anywhere. If you were on your way from Genoa or Nice to Turin, you might come here. Or if skiing.

(Julie attended a wedding of a friend in this area and they had the Rehearsal Dinner at this restaurant.) This restaurant was a great trattoria that Kim said she and Stefano go to every couple of months for special meals.

Anyway, again, the service was excellent. There were 13 adults and 3 kids, and we came and went without ruffling any feathers. The kids were all needing to move and were still jet lagged. 2 sisters came and got Bill and I from the Savona train station, so the 4 of us were a little over a 1/2 hour late. The staff caught us up on the antipasti without slowing the others down too much and without rushing us; it was seamless. We had a huge series of antipasti including stuffed zucchini blossoms, actually at this point I forget what we had, but it was wonderful and a large amount (I'm pretty sure I had 4 plates put in front of me before the pasta came. Each plate had several small things on it). 2 pastas followed. One was a homemade pasta with a cheese sauce of a local cheese delicacy. Kim and Stefano laughed about the cheese and said they would tell us how it was made after we ate. They never did (we forgot), but it was a good strong flavor and yet still mild. The other pasta was a tortalini of some sort. This was followed by several meats - a baked chicken, some beef and mounds of haricot verts. Things are a blur now, but we were stuffed, though not so stuffed to turn down the fresh wild plums that followed and the cake and ice cream… Umm.
