Directions: About 100 meters south of the Piazzale Roma, just south of Rio Terra dei Pensieri Our hotel owners recommended that we try this small restaurant around the corner - which is where they ate when they had a chance. The trade is mostly locals and the owner, Maurizio, speaks a small amount of English but the food is great, especially his seafood dishes. Try the spaghetti with cuttlefish and ink and the fried Misto Pesce. The service was great and we were able to eat here in Venice for two with wine, primi, secondi, dolce, coffee and grappa for about €60. We tipped them generously even though "servizio incluso" and we were treated very well. We enjoyed the first night there so much we ate there the other two nights and a brief lunch before we left. On our last night, we let Maurizio do the ordering and we did not overeat. We were served a caprese to start, followed by risotto with seafood, then a fish soup and the spaghetti with cuttlefish ink. From there we followed with Vin Santo and biscotti, coffee and grappa and all for €63!!! We started dinner at 7:30 and helped him close up at 11!!! It is on the local side of town near the university district which is why the local trade. He does have outside table seating on the canal if you prefer but when we were there it was too cold in the evening to eat outside. Don't miss this one. A tip... if you can understand Italian, order from the Italian version of the menu... it is different than the English version and the choices are better!!
