Lucca: Trattoria Prosciutto e Melone

Unpleasant meal here on a rainy June Sunday.

Our party of 11 popped into Prosciutto e Melone because Osteria Baralla right next door was closed.

The host said he could accomodate us but seemed unhappy to see a large party. I explained we did not mind being seated at several smaller tables. He sighed and gave us a large table that clearly had been reserved for a party expected later in the afternoon. When those folks showed up 45 minutes later, *they* ended up scattered at several tables around the room. Whatever.

We sat upstairs in a pleasant room decorated with pop art including a painting of David Bowie. He looked like he was chewing on a guitar.

Half of us ordered pizza, half of us ordered pasta. A few antipasti dishes and salads, too. The results ranged from a decent quattro stagione pizza to a disgusting pasta with pesto and potatoes. The server was a young girl with a lovely smile and perhaps a hearing problem: we asked three times before she brought bread and grissini for the children.

The trattoria was not expensive but considering the quality of the food we still overpaid.

All in all, the worst meal we had on this trip.
