Fabulous restaurant in the shadow of the Duomo

This was one of the best and most fun meals of our trip to Umbria. Not only was the owner, Giuseppe D'Amelio, a very nice gentleman but he responded to my not great Italian without reverting to English right off the bat! Our group of 8 sat on the upper patio of the outside eating area which afforded a splendid view of the very beautiful Duomo and a quiet piazza for a 1:30 lunch in late September. There is also a sizable inside dining area.

The service was superb and humorous as well. Our waiter made a great show of presenting one of my friends his primo (complete with a sterling cover), only to reveal a miniscule portion which brought the expected gales of laughter from our group.

To start, we were presented with a lovely complimentary mixed antipasti of meats, and shared a most delicious pecorino baked in parchment and salds with pears that were very different and quite tasty. The House carafe of vino rosso was pleasant for €10 and there were lots of compliments on the lentil soup. My husband had a wonderful risotto with black truffles, I had a fabulous pasta with bacon, endive and shaved black truffles, others had an excellent zucchini and eggplant dish and a spaghetti arrabbiata. For dolce, we shared a wonderful chocolate cake of the region and a complimentary vin santo was offered to those who wanted to indulge (that would be me again). Espresso was great, too. It was all beautifully executed and presented.

The owner shook each of our hands as we departed and thanked us for dining at his establishment. Highly recommended, I would make a stop in Spoleto just to dine there!
