Castelfranco Emilia: Villa Gaidello

Via Gaidello, 18 , Phone: 059.926.620

Reviewed by: Bill Sutherland from Italy, review #303

When: 2001

Family farm with an excellent restaurant and apartments.

Villa Gaidello is run by Paola Bini - one of the sweetest women in all of Italy. She took over the family farm; made several apartments and an excellent restaurant. The local women from the area do all the cooking in the traditional way. Many articles have been written about her over the years - hence you are likely to see other Americans, but not always. She told me one time that many Americans come to Villa Gaidello, but I was the only one who kept coming back.

She has never spoken one word of English to me - although her sister lives in Virgina and runs a B&B there.

Paola knows my love of Sig. Pedroni's Nocino - a walnut based liquor - and every time we dine with her, she packs a small bottle of her Nocino for me to take with me. I've spent many wonderful afternoons in her pasta room, watching and learning to make the tortellini. The food is excellent with very good prices.
