Unique, Friendly, casual Venetian-style food in Milan. Listed in Osterie d'Italia. Great baccala montecato and spaghetti with black sauce.

Directions: (Garibaldi-Isola)

We ate here once for lunch and once for dinner and fully enjoyed it both times. For lunch we had pastas and salads. Nothing too special but very good, especially a tagliateli with eggplant, tomatoes and little chunks of fresh mozzerella.

Dinner showed more of the Venice influence on the menu. We had vegetarian assorted antipasto which included fried zuchini blossoms and a beautiful stuffed squash and all the regular grilled veggie things. The pasta with frutti di mare had a wonderful gingery flavor and lots of seafood. Ravioli were very large and homemade with arugala and cheese inside in a very simple freah tomato sauce. Tuna steak was very fresh a cooked simply. The highlight for me was the spaghetti with squid ink--rich and full of the sea flavors. The squid was so nicely cooked, not at all chewy. The bacala montecata was so wonderful, the best I have had and it was a gift from the "front of the house" man who seems to embody the gregariousness of the whole place.

When we left him and told him we were returning domani to Florida he insisted we take a bottle of wine with us. What a memorable guy in a wonderful little restaurant. Many people had reservations; it was very crowed on a Thursday night.
