Great food in a hectic but friendly place very close to the Pantheon.

Thankfully we had booked for our Saturday dinner - Rome was more crowded than I'd ever seen it (a 5-day weekend, as it turned out) and it seemed like everyone was looking for dinner as we made our way to the restaurant. We had to wait 10-15 minutes for a table even with a booking. As we waited, we had a chance to look over the crates of vegetables outside in the street, especially the beautiful artichokes.

Once we were seated, the service was good given that all the waiters were running around like crazy trying to keep up! There were five of us, and we started with a couple of orders of excellent fried artichokes and some very nice fiori fritti. All were a little oily, but very good. There were also a couple of salads that I didn't sample but which looked very good. For primi, two people had pappardelle with a porcini and tomato sauce which looked and smelled wonderful, one had spaghetti al ragu, and my wife and I both had pasta (can't remember what sort) with a terrific black truffle sauce.

With 1 1/2 liters of a decent house wine, water, and coffee dinner was 130 euros for the five of us - a little more expensive than most of our meals on this trip, but well worth it. The service was good, the food was very good, and the efforts of the staff to keep up with the madness provided the evening's entertainment.
