I was very disappointed. The food, menu and the chef have changed and not for the good unfortunately. Also no mention of not taking credit cards until payment time is unacceptable. My lamb dinner was poor quality and expensive, all bones and very little lamb. We ate at Ristorante Settimio down the street the next night and it was great at half the price. On my last visit in 2007 the food was great and worth the price. Sad to say, this is not the case now, so do not waste your money, avoid this restaurant. At this point you will have to travel to Basilicata to experience the wonderful food of this region. Reviewed by: Tony C from TX, review #2716 When: 2007
The beef and pork dishes were excellent as was the pasta dishes we tried. The wine list features Aglianico Del Vulture which is perfect for the style of food. The service is excellent as well. The chef also checks to see if everything is perfect. Given the quality of the food and the attention to preparation, the value for the price is excellent. This is the one of the best restaurants I have eaten at during many trips to Rome over the years. Reviewed by: valerie from Italy, review #2376 When: 2007
Directions: Just around the corner from the Pantheon It was serendipity that we happened upon the door of this basement level restaurant just around the corner from the Pantheon. We nearly missed it. I just happened to glance and see the sign proclaiming their specialty, tipico Lucano, food from Basilicata, the region my family hails from. Once we descended the steps we found ourselves in space that is “rustic chic,” with hewn wood doors and accents and exudes the aura of warm and homey. There are 3 main rooms and 2 alcove tables of country wood furnishings and a menu only in Italian. We knew we’d like this place. They offer what may well be the best lunch bargain in Rome: €10 for a primo, contorno, wine and water. Many of the pastas are fresh-made on the premises; those using dried pasta are marked as such on the menu. They have a nice combination of ingredients, beautifully presented. We were surprised by the bread basket, which contained five types of fresh pane. The antipasto plate with the mix of meats and cheeses and the Basilicatan dried sweet peppers fried in olive oil was a wonderful starter that reminded us of our wonderful trip to Lucania. Glasses of Aglianico washed it all down nicely. Tasteful décor and tasty food mean we will definitely return! This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
