An informal bistro with extraordinary food.

LeMed is attached to a charming small hotel (Silva Torlonia) near the Plaza Bologna in Rome. It is open all day for coffee and sandwiches, but it shines at night. The chef has international hotel training and produces beautiful plates of fresh food for very moderate prices. The most memorable was an appetizer of a thinly sliced dark ham from Spain called pata negro.

The wine selection is small but distinctive, and the manager suggested Italian wines that pleased us greatly. Our experience in LeMed was so enjoyable that we seldom strayed from our hotel. If the weather is suitable, the patio is the best! We did not expect to find such great meals off the beaten path, but we were surprised an delighted.
