Montepulciano: Piccola Trattoria Guastini

I would drive great distances to eat here and would return over and over again.

We drove here from Montepulciano. What a treat it was to have lunch on the terrace. Nice views and a mellow, relaxing atmosphere. I would add though, that the restaurant inside was very charming and would be a wonderful room to dine in as well.

The food is amazing. Chicken liver/leek/apple bruschetta and cream of fagiolini with fried onions for appetizers got us started off on the right foot. Our primis were spectacular. Ravioli with pigeon was rich and tasty, and the taglioni with carrots, zucchini, and onion was fresh and simple. Secondi were deep-fried rabbit for him and the roasted duck for me. The duck was seasoned with fennel pollen among other things. Both were out of this world, but the duck was the clear winner. Dolci was a little gelato (burp). Due caffe and we were set for the rest of the day!
