A reason to visit Putignano

We found this spot on our last trip to Puglia (Summer 2013) and thought so much of it that we made a return visit before leaving for home (Los Angeles). Owned by a husband/wife team (he's in the kitchen and she runs the front of the house), the small, well-appointed restaurant in the heart of the centro storico offers a sophisticated vision of the traditional Puglian cuisine celebrated throughout the region. The antipasti are creative and inspired takes on the traditional favorites (for example, the pure di fava came with baby grape vine tendrils instead of chicory - a variation sourced in Putignano custom). The pasta courses were innovative and well executed as were the secondi (the meat was of exceptional quality).

Desserts were also unusual and excellent. A very thoughtful wine list (available by bottle or glass) featuring the local producers as well as a good selection of local craft beers and ales. The owners were very friendly and made it a point to explain the menu and the preparations to us in detail. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and we're already planning our return in December. A party of four with antipasti, primi for 2 and secondi for 4 with desert, a bottle of wine and 2 bottles of beer and coffee came to 150 euros. I highly recommend this restaurant.
