Delicious, eclectic menu.

Directions: Very near Santa Maria Maggiore

After years of hearing about this small restaurant near Santa Maria Maggiore, I finally had lunch here in May 2012. And it was great.

The menu is somewhat eclectic - not typical Roman dishes, or at least the dishes are given a somewhat different treatment than is traditional.

I had a wonderful eggplant parmigiana and shared a really great, savoury red onion flan in Gorgonzola sauce with my friend, who had a wonderful seasonal pasta with fava beans.

Our other friend had a cod carpaccio appetizer which she loved. There are several meat dishes on the menu - from rabbit and game birds to beef.

Prices are a bit high, but the Camerucci family (who own the restaurant) provide very good service. That said, the restaurant, which seemed filled with Italians, added a two-euro per person pane (bread) charge to our bill, which I didn't care for. The bread wasn't that good!

Still, I'd highly recommend Trattoria Monti. But it's very popular, so be sure to make reservations.
