2bed/2bath house in Gioia Taura, Calabria WhenJune 19 - 26, 2004, one week LocationA quiet little villa near the coast in the small village of Gioia Taura just north of Reggio Calabria. It was totally refurbished with all the comforts of home. Nearby AmenitiesA little market around the corner for most grocery items and also within walking distance to the main area of shopping and restaurants. The House/ApartmentThis was an old building but completly refurbished to a modern two story beautiful villa. Beautifully modernized with all the comforts of home. GardenThere was an outside area newly tiled with a shower for an after the beach clean up. Also an attractive alley with a barbeque grill. A small washline for drying bathing suits, etc. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furnishing were all new and very comfortable with adequate sitting both in the dining area and sitting area. It was spotless and attractive. It had an entertainment center with TV, DVD, & CD player. Plenty of lighting for just relaxing and reading. Bedrooms/BathroomsBeds were very comfortable with lovely linens & pillows. The bathroom was beautiful with two glass sinks and a rain shower and also a bidet. Plenty of towels and toiletry items were available. Two bedrooms and one bathroom upstairs and another full bath downstairs. Lots of closet and drawer space available. KitchenThe kitchen was beautiful with stainless steel sink and back splash, stove, refrigerator with freezer, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and enough dishes and pots and pans to cook a full dinner. A relative of the owner will cook an Italian dinner for you ... it was wonderful. Problems or BonusesWe had a relative of the owner available to drive us where we wanted to go (for a reasonable price) or there were car rentals available and the train ride from Rome was so relaxing and nearby to take some side trips. Nothing bad about this villa only good ... making a wonderful relaxing vacation retreat with the friendly local people. Two bicycles, beach chairs, and beach umbrella are available to pedal to the beach for a relaxing day in the sun (which was everyday ... no rain in sight). Agency and Representatives (and price)Micheal Castaldo is a warm and wonderful person to work with and will go out of his way to send you any information you need to the minute detail. His cousin Pietro was our onsite person and available driver ... a very nice young man and can speak some English. We had a great time with him taking us to some wonderful little places, and also to Sicily. Micheal's family treats you as one of their own. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We are planning another trip there again next year and would recommend it to everyone. The website shows you every room and it looks just as it does when you arrive. Things to do in this areaWe enjoyed all the shops especially the Italian gift shop in the Galleria which is owned by another Castaldo relative. An outside cafe for a latte or Gelato was our rest stop, adequate restaurants and pizzeria's were excellent. We did several side trips so did not eat locally too many times. The Market on Monday morning is a must to see and stock up on some wonderful cheeses, and fresh fruit and veggies, and anything else you may need.
