apartments in a villa near Cortona, Tuscany East

July 10 - 17, 2004, 1 week

We had 2 of the 3 apartments in this wonderful villa - we were 3 couples traveling together. The villa was located just outside the walled city of Cortona. We could walk into town (about a 15 minute walk - but up some pretty steep hills) or drive to just outside the wall and park in one of the many lots.

The view from the villa was amazing. The only problem with noise was that it was right on a turn in the road coming down from the city (at least it was a one way street).

Nearby Amenities

There were shops in Cortona we could either walk to or drive and park. There was also a COOP down the hill that was convenient to drive to. There are lots of wonderful restaurants and places for coffee, gelato, beer, wine.

The House/Apartment

This house was in wonderful shape. We could tell that the owners really cared about it. There were 3 apartments.

There was a large green lawn with chairs and a table in the shade, there was an eating area right below our door on a patio that we used frequently for meals.

There was a pool (above ground). We were the only ones there at the time so we had everythng to ourselves.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was good, the apartment was very clean. It was all very comfortable. It also had a washing machine and lines for hanging out clothes.

The beds were amazingly comfortable. The bedrooms were nice. There were 2 bathrooms, one large with a tub and hand held shower head and the other small with a very small shower.

The kitchen was usable and we were able to prepare a few meals but it could have used more cooking supplies. There were plenty of dishes and wine glasses. We ended up buying large tumblers and leaving them there. Our apartment had an oven but the one upstairs didn't.

Problems or Bonuses

We were surprised at how beautiful everything was. The pictures on the website didn't do it justice. The gardens were beautiful and the owners seemed to be there daily to take care of things.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Yes! The onsite person(s) owner(s) were great. The husband and wife didn't speak much English but their son and daughter both were very helpful and did speak English.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Yes, we would stay here again. It was hard to leave. Our best friends were with us and they want to go back. I will be recommending this to people I work with too.

Things to do in this area

It was close to some nice places for day trips. We went to Assisi, Orvieto, Toti and Florence. We spent quite a bit of time in Cortona. Shop keepers were very friendly.
