Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 1037: Sleep in Italy, Via del Pantheon
2bed/2bath apartment in historic center, Rome
april 2004, 1 week
The location was great! Central to everything. The instructions on how to find the apt were terrible. Someone wrote them who does not speak English. They sent me in the opposite direction.
A city apartment, very noisy. There is a resturant directly under the only window that opened. The advert online said pretty courtyard. The courtyard was dirty, the back doors of two businesses opened onto it, and it was full of vespas and trash cans. Very mislesding web page.
The apartment was very central, right off the Piazza del Pantheon. Nice cafes for people watching, bank right there, grocery store just a block away, you can walk to all the major sites.
On the web page, it appears to be a nice apartment. It is not! It was uncomfortable. The kitchenette was FILTHY! I rent apartments when I travel because I like to cook with the local food. The kitchen was unuseable. The bathrooms were on top of each other loft style, and when someone used the upstairs bath room water leaks on your head in the lower bath room. And my friend who used the upper bath said it was full of black mold, and she is allergic to mold. It wasn't only apartments, there were offices too.
No, there is nowhere nice or private to sit outside. The balcony overlooks the dirty courtyard. The apartment was like being in a dark close cave.
There were ok furnishings, not very comfortable, and the rugs were worn and dirty along with the filthy kitchen and moldy bathrooms.
The beds and linens were nice.
The fully equipped kitchenette is a joke. It's a liitle side porch that has been covered green house style broken in places and dirty. It was terrible. Pots and pans not bad. Absolutly no surface to do meal prep., no cooking knife - fortunately I always travel with a good knife.
Problems or Bonuses
I emailed the agency twice from Florence to let them know our exact time of arrival. With the bad instuctions to find the place, we still stand outside and waited for an hour and who knows how long we would have waited if we hadn't gotten a kind soul to call the numbers we were givien on her cell. Rome was nice, the apartment was a nightmare.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Never had any contact with the agency beyond email from here. The girl who let us in spoke no English. Fortunatly I speak passable Italian. The apartment was 1300.00 euro for the week. Way too much for what you get. My apartment in florence was heaven and it was 750.00 euro a week.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Things to do in this area
There is so much to do and see in rome. We were there 7 days and barely scratched the surface. The best experiance was going to a small production of La traviata in a lovely church, small repitory great orchestra, fabulous singers, truly the highlight of the month we spent in italy.
