apartments in a villa on the outskirts, Florence
When2002 spring, 2002 fall, 2003 fall, 10 to 21 days ReviewCarlo's apartments are 5 km from the historical center of Florence, with a perfectly beautiful view a little above the plain of the city. You can see the distant duomo as the dramtic light changes on it through the day and night. There are lovely gardens being tended constantly around the apartments, a working small farm, with vegetables, fruits, grapes, olive trees, and colorful chickens. Carlo is a wonderful, friendly host who likes to help in any way he can, but is not invasive. He lives there with his family, friendly dog and cat. Even though the apartments are part of his villa and close surroundings, each is distinctly private, with a seperate entrance. There is easy parking, also. Carlo also shares his own wine he has made for himself, from his cellar, with his guests. If you are looking for a real experience of Tuscany, without being right in the city or too isolated from it's conveniences, this is a wonderful place to stay. The airport is fairly close, once you figure out how to get back and forth. As an artist who paints the landscape, this place offered everything I was hoping for, and more. Carlo speaks English well enough to help you find most things you made need. The apartments are well supplied with kitchen /cooking supplies, etc. It is a peaceful place that you may never want to leave. A tiny village nearby has some ammenities and an easy 15 minute walk to the bus stop will get you to places anywhere in the city in a few minutes. For someone who has never traveled overseas and does not know the language, it is a perfect first time place to stay. It may be difficult to find if you are driving yourself from the airport/downtown the first time - so be prepared to get a bit lost a few times - but the scenery is usually interesting, even then.
