Review 104: Cottages to Castles, Villa Olimpia
9bed/9bath villa near Ambra, Tuscany Chianti
The huge, stone Villa Olimpia is in the most perfect setting; up on top of a hill with an olive grove in the background. The villa has nine bedrooms and nine bathrooms, several sitting rooms, a large family room with TV and pool table (with French doors leading to the patio), three kitchens, a huge dinning room, a separate building with a washer and dryer, an outside grill, a gorgeous pool, and beautiful grounds.
The villa has thick stone walls. We left the windows open at night and were extremely comfortable in the heat. There were several wings to the villa and several sets of small steps. The kitchen was pretty bare bones for appliances but had a dishwasher, wonderful old gas stove/oven and full size refrigerator.
The owner came every few days to clean the pool, otherwise you never saw anyone. Ambra was the closest town; you need a car. It is a small town, not too much there. Florence was an hour away, Siena about 30 minutes.
I would highly recommend this wonderful villa. The Parker Company was extremely easy to work with and also helped to arrange the car rental. We paid about $5000 for the week; it was a bargain! This villa was featured in a CNN spot on renting villas in Italy. Once you see the view, the villa and the grounds, you will know why it was chosen!
