2bed/2bath house in village near Buonconvento, Tuscany South WhenJune 24 - 30, 2004, 7 Days LocationLaPorta was located approximately 30 minutes south of Siena in a small village of Chiusure. Chiusure is a lovely walled village high on a hill overlooking the lovely Tucan countryside. The town can not have more then 100 - 150 people. So it is quiet. Nearby AmenitiesThe closest town is Buonconvento, with grocery and other stores for your day to day needs, 10 minutes down the hill. The village itself (Chiusure) has a local general store with a great husband and wife owner. They do not speak English, we did a lot of pointing and got what we wanted. Great new resteraunt in town. There were two other eating places, a pizza place which we did not try and a sandwich shop which we did not try either. We bought cold cuts and cheeses in the nearby town and from general store which was very good for non restreaunt nights. The House/ApartmentLaPorta is very rustic and historical, a great Tuscan gem. We couldn not have been happier. The apartment is set in the wall of the village, private entrance, but other aprartments surrounding it. Nice neighbors except for the one just below who liked to play loud music, but it was not that disturbing. GardenWe had a nice patio which we sat on every night. The village is quiet for the most part, many locals enjoyed their evenings at the local General Store which provided the villagers with food and drink every night, and we enjoyed the laughter and "spirited" conversations which we could not understand. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasLaPorta was quite a suprise, very spacious, beautiful antique furnishings and very large bedrooms with modern bathrooms. There is a large kitchen area with stove and old sink and an adjacent sitting area which is very comfortable. The apartment was very clean and airy. Bedrooms/BathroomsSpacious, airy, great beds ... very comfortable. KitchenWe cooked and made espresso, basic but adequate. Problems or BonusesLaPorta was great, would stay there again and highly recommend it for a small family or two couples. There is a good walk from the parking area to the apartment, so be in decent shape to accend the hill. Local freindly cats which visited us in the kitchen if you leave the door open. Agency and Representatives (and price)Zak with Tuscan House was great. Met us and showed us the property, told us of the great local eatery's. Make sure you go to the organic olive oil farm, he will have to give you directions, it is worth the drive. Zak even helped us out with a parking ticket, he was great to work with. The price was great compared to other properties we stayed in on the front and backend of our trip. If this property ws in a larger town it would have been two to three times the price. We paid $950 (US) for the week!!!! Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Highly recommended. Things to do in this areaThis was a great central point for hitting all the towns in a fifty mile radius. We stayed on back roads and saw many lovely villages and never wandered more then an hour and a half from LaPorta and still did not see everything in the seven days we were there. Great wine and olive oil area and spas are very close. many great places to eat. The countryside is unbelievable. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
