Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 1081: Timeaway Villas, La Fortezza
2bed apartment in Positano, Campania
September 3 - 10, 2004, 7 days
Villa was on the main road in Positano. The road was like a race track 24 hours per day with buses, cars, trucks, and motor scooters blowing horns and racing by.
A grocery store was across the road. Restaurants were approximately 210 steps down into the main part of Positano.
I don't know if the building was historical or not. There is no air conditioning or fans and it was very warm during the day and evening. Opening the windows invited the noise, flies and mosquitos.
The villa advertises a two car garage, which is in reality a garage that will only hold one car with about 6 to 8 inches of clearance on either side for the driver to slip out. The back end of the garage held storage.
The kitchen was about a 3 by 6 space with a propane stove and a Toaster oven. The place had a balcony that allowed a view of the area.
There was an outside sitting area, but as mentioned, a great deal of traffic noise. No pool, no garden area.
The villa was clean, but without air conditioning or fans, not comfortable. It also had a 13 or 15 inch TV.
The beds were comfortable. I did receive a severe shock turning on the bedside lamp as it had a defective socket. The large bathroom had a tub and hand-held shower. The toilet ran all the time. The small bathroom had a shower. This bathroom was extremely small and required you to close the door to reach the toilet area.
The kitchen was not very usable with a small propane 3 burner stove and a toaster oven. The pots and pans were vintage. We never cooked anything other than coffee and toast. I did not see it as conducive for meals although you probably could cook there.
Problems or Bonuses
Very scenic area. Problems with ants, noise, lack of ventilation, garage door.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
The onsite person did not speak English. I felt that the reality of the place did not accurately reflect the published information, however I am sure the agency would not agree.
A call to the agency in the UK required another call to the agency in Florence who stated that they told us the villa was on a main road. I stated that we were not told about the traffic at which time it was suggested that "you have not been to the Amalfi Coast before." At this point, I hung up.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would not stay there again, nor would I recommend the area to any others.
Things to do in this area
The best restaurant for the money in my opinion is Chez Black. The food was excellent and the price was reasonable. There are a lot of good restaurants in the area with a variety of prices.
