1bed/1bath apartment near the Vatican, Rome WhenSep 12 - 19, 2004, 7 days LocationThe apartment is located on Via Angelo Emo, in a neighbourhood close to the Vatican. It isn't a touristy neighbourhood (which was good). The apartment is located on the ground floor and is set back about 60-70 feet from the main road. There is a private gate on the main road that leads up to the apartment. Nearby AmenitiesLots of amenities nearby - pharmacies, Internet cybercafe, restaurants, gelateria, cheese shops, supermarket, market, etc. All within 5-10 minutes walk. I would say the area is very well serviced. In particular, a nearby restaurant (La Fornace) serves good food at reasonable prices. The vongole and carbonara pastas there were very good, as was the caffe latte. Also don't miss the Trionfale market, where you can get fresh produce and many other goodies. The metro stop (Cipro) is about 6 mins walk away. Vatican Museum is 10 mins on foot. The House/ApartmentIn two words, "clean" and "cozy". The place is well kept and maintained. The apartment itself is studio style and quite small, maybe around 250 square feet in all. It's equipped with a double bed, although there is another double mattress hidden away. Theoretically you could fit up to 4 persons, but this will be too cramped. This apartment is ideal for 2. Floor is tiled, so may be cold on the feet (bring slippers). Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThere is a small fold-away table in the living area with 4 chairs, all in good shape. A small TV is provided with a satelite receiver (but really only 2 English news channels). The apartment has an air-conditioner. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe double bed was firm and comfortable enough. Linen was clean. The one bathroom was small but adequate. Hair dryer is provided. The shower had good pressure and was hot. KitchenThe kitchen is compact. Although it is equipped with a stove, I think doing cooking will be a challenge. Cutlery, plates, cups, a saucepan and a frying pan are provided. There is also a coffee maker and a bar fridge. It would be great if the place came with a microwave oven and kettle. Problems or BonusesTwo good bonuses provided. Firstly, airport transfers. It's good to be met upon arrival so you don't have to worry about getting to the apartment. The two way transfer itself will save you about 70 euros in taxi fares. Secondly, a local cellphone. Mauro will loan you a cellphone with an Italian number, you just have to top it up by buying recharge cards at any newsagent or tobacco shop. Agency and Representatives (and price)My initial communications with Mauro went smoothly. He responds to email fairly quickly. I sent a deposit by mail to him but it never got there (postal problem) but Mauro was kind enough to waive it and said I could pay in full when I arrive. In person Mauro was pleasant and friendly. Before getting to the apartment he drove us around the neighbourhood and pointed things out. Even took us for breakfast (cappucino and pastry) as we arrived in the morning. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Yes. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
