Review 1146: Villa Alsazia, Apartment
apartments in a villa in Ferretto, Umbria
Sept 18 - Oct 2, 2004, 2 weeks
Located in Ferretto, Umbria, near the Tuscany border and Castiglione del Lago on Lake Trasimeno. A beautiful villa, with two apartments, fully equipped. Delightful location with vineyard. Very tranquil with wonderful owners who went out of their way to help us get the most out of all of our daytrips.
The large apartment was wonderful, exceptionally clean and well cared for. We were greeted by the owners who set a welcome table for us of fresh bread, 2 bottles of wine from the vineyard, a large bowl of fresh fruits including delicious grapes, two bottles of bottled water, and plenty of smiles.
The area was a perfect location for day trips throughout Umbria and Tuscany. About 10 km from Cortona. I cannot wait to return again in 2005!
The apartment was very close to shopping and restaurants in Terontola (which has a train station), and Castiglione del Lago, Camucia, and Cortona. Both Terontola and Castiglione del Lago had internet points. Lake Trasimeno is spectacular with a ferry to the Isola Maggiore.
The villa is hundreds of years old and has been completely restored. It is a three story building. The large apartment has two floors, with kitchen and living room on the first floor and large bedrooms and bath on the second. Also on the first floor with separate entrances were a community room and a laundry, which was available for our use. The second apartment has a separate side entrance, and we did not see the interior. The entire third floor is owner occupied and absolutely beautiful and spacious. Many of the original stones and logs are still in place throughout the building, and every precaution was taken to maintain the ambiance of old Italy with the modern conveniences for daily living.
The outside patio areas were common areas, and we enjoyed sharing a glass of wine and great conversation with other guests and the owners.
The apartment was very clean and comfortable. A corner booth with benches and chairs occupied a large corner in the eat-in kitchen. It was very comfortable and the table was dressed with tablecloths and fresh kitchen linens were in the drawers.
The sitting room has a fireplace, television, a comfortable futon sofa and extra chairs. The built in shelves and cabinets offered storage and the owners provided literature for the area, maps, and historical books about Italy, and Umbria in particular.
The towels in the bathroom were thick and soft - not the traditional waffle type towels found in hotels.
The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were spacious with plenty of storage areas. The bathroom was large and included a shower stall that was larger than those in hotels. The hot water never ended and everything was clean and spotless.
We enjoyed using the kitchen and cooking our own meals for dinners. The kitchen was well stocked with supplies and we lacked nothing. Everything was of good quality and spotless.
Problems or Bonuses
The best surprise for us was the family that owned the villa. Incredibly wonderful and helpful. Very social and accommodating. Also, the apartment was much bigger than expected.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
On the property is the home of the daughter, Rosalinda, who speaks English and communicates by email. The owners speak beautiful Italian and make themselves understood very easily. The published information is excellent and the photos are accurate, although we found things to be much larger than we thought.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I cannot wait to return and would spend months living in this location and property if possible. You will not be disappointed!
