apartments in the Oltrarno, Florence
WhenOct. 2004, 5 days LocationLocated in the Oltrarno district of Florence. It is near Santo Spirito and Church of Carmine (and the wonderful Brancacci Chapel). We loved this area. It was very quiet and there were many areas to shop for supplies. Wonderful choices for ristorantes, trattorias, pizza shops, cafes, etc. We felt "at home" right away. Nearby AmenitiesAnything you could possibly need was within walking distance. 3 minute walk to the grocery store, Magi Market. Internet cafes nearby. The House/ApartmentHistorical building, from the outside you would never know that there was a beautiful garden with apartments behind it! It is next to the home of artist Filipo Lippi. Our apartment, (Mirra apt.), was in excellent shape, and from what we could tell from peeking, the other apartments were just as lovely. GardenThe garden was lovely. Beautiful trees, flowers and Miriam, the landlady, has all kinds of herbs growing. There is a friendly bird, Romeo, in a cage and he greets you with "Ciao" - LOL. She also has a very old fat cat that enjoys the garden too. It was lovely, a great place to read and have a glass of wine. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasWe could live here. Everything seemed brand spankin' new! The place was spotless. Gorgeous windows with beautiful lace inserts in the panes. A perfect place for 2 people. A tv, comfy little love seat. Bedrooms/BathroomsVery comfortable bed. A gorgeous armoire for storage, plenty of hangers, bedside tables and window ledges perfect for placing things on too. In addition, a beautiful storage chest with extra blankets. KitchenThere was a gas stove and a small size refrigerator but it had plenty of room for what we bought. There were plenty of plates, utencils, pots and pans for our usage. Table mats, one of those cute coffee pots, we had everything we needed. You wouldn't want to cook a turkey here ... well, you couldn't, as there was no oven. But, it was ideal for what we wanted, mainly making breakfasts, omelets, and for afternoon snacks. The marble kitchen table was gorgeous and very heavy. No way to sneak that sucker outta there!! Problems or BonusesIt was better than we had hoped for. A real treat! Agency and Representatives (and price)Miriam was a sweetheart. She spoke English well, not fluently, but enough to help you with anything you need. She is a delightful woman who is onsite at all times. She answered all of our questions and recommended places to shop and places to eat. We paid 90 Euro per night in October. The website pictures don't reflect the true beauty of this place. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We would DEFINITELY stay here again. I would recommend this place to my mother! We hated to leave and I know in my heart that one day I will return! Things to do in this areaPlenty to do, it's Florence! Of course, the Church of Carmine and the Brancacci Chapel is 5 minutes away. Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens very close. It was about a 15 minute walk to Uffizi and more touristy areas. Our delicious dinners: We ate at Trattoria Il Carmine, Trattoria I'Brindellone, La Casalinga. We loved the pastry and pizza from the "Forno" shop about 2 blocks from the apartment. Delicious gelato from Gelateria Ponte alla Carraia. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
