apartments on an estate near Montepulciano, Tuscany South When09/11/04 - 09/18/04, 1 week LocationThe location was in the country. Once we figured out the location, we didn't mind being outside of the town. We were in a separate villa; there was also the main building where the hosts lived upstairs, and there were several double rooms for other guests. Our villa, Le Viole, was very private. Nearby AmenitiesWe needed to drive at least 2 miles to small stores and restaurants. The main town of Montepulciano was about 5 miles away, where there was a good sized grocery and many restaurants and shops. The House/ApartmentThe villa we stayed in had just been restored about a year before, although the double rooms had been there previously. The villa was beautiful, with nicely tiled bathrooms, and hand-stenciled bedrooms. View our classified listing for Le Manzinaie, a SlowTrav Favorite. GardenThe villa had its own private sitting area, with table and chairs. There was also a common area to be used by all guests. There is a lovely pool, with chaise lounges and tables. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasEverything was clean and in good shape. The kitchen/seating area had 4 chairs, plus a bench for 2. There was no real living room - the TV was in the kitchen area, so you needed to watch TV from the kitchen table. That wasn't a problem for us, since we weren't in Italy to watch TV! Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were comfortable. The bedrooms and bathrooms were spacious. One bedroom had a jacuzzi tub, plus shower. The other had a good-sized shower. The towels were nice and thick. KitchenThe kitchen was very well equipped, and was great for cooking full meals. Our hosts had stocked it with some basic supplies for our first breakfast, as well as a bottle of wine and bottled water. They also encouraged us to help ourselves to anything from their extensive garden and fruit trees. Problems or BonusesWe had read rave reviews from others, but we were still thrilled with the wonderful treatment from Marzia, Alicia, and Fiore. They were ready to help wherever needed, and always offering a beverage. They prepared a wonderful dinner for all the guests one evening, and it was a highlight of our trip. The dinner was delicious, but the company was even better - both the hosts and the other guests. We only wish we had more time to get to know everyone better. Agency and Representatives (and price)The agency was very helpful, and spoke English perfectly. The price matched what was advertised. The cost for the week for 4 persons was 1120 Euros, which we felt was very fair. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Yes, we would definitely stay here agan! Things to do in this areaVisit wineries and hill towns, as well as nearby cities of Siena, Cortona, Florence. A special dinner was at Le Logge in Montepulciano - not inexpensive, but very memorable for a 10th anniversary! This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
