apartments on an estate in Chianti, Tuscany Chianti WhenAugust 2004, 1 week LocationThe Podere Torricella is situated in the beautiful Tuscan countryside about thirty minutes from Florence and about 6 miles from the main A1 autostrada. Situated on a hillside amongst olive trees and vineyards, it overlooks the various villages along the valley. The complex consists of 10 apartments, although the renovation and design is such that privacy is maintained. Nearby AmenitiesThere are shops in the local village which is about two miles away and larger supermarkets in the local towns which take around 15 minutes by car. In the evenings the local resturaunt which is only 100m from the rooms has some of the best food available with a view to 'die for' as the sun sets to the west. The House/ApartmentThe apartments are made from a renovated farm house and its out buildings. The decoration is typically Italian/Tuscan and the facilities were superb. GardenOutside of each apartment, was a quiet sitting area for meals with table and chairs. Additional to this, a communial pool, barbeque area and table tennis room was available for all. The pool was large enough for all the people staying at the complex with adequate sunloungers and shades. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furniture and equiment was in very good condition with full cooking equipment, fridge, TV. The room on arrival was very clean and the linen/towels etc. had all been fully replenished. The main living room was of a good size, and able to cope with evening get togethers with families from other apartments. Bedrooms/BathroomsOur apartment had two large bedrooms with a kingsize double bed in one and two singles in the other. The sheets were clean and in good condition. There was also adequate storage space for our clothes etc. We had two bathrooms, which made life very easy for a family of four. KitchenThe kitchen was great, with a complete set of utensils. The only thing lacking was an oven, but when in Italy we spent all our time cooking pasta; however some children may prefer the odd pizza. Problems or BonusesNo problems at all, the big bonus has to be the position as it is situated right in the middle of Tuscany so places of intrest ore never more than 60 minutes away. The other big bonus has to be the local restaurant, the food, service and views are superb - no wonder everyone was booking tables a week in advance. Agency and Representatives (and price)We booked this holiday via the agency InTuscany and had superb support throughout the process, with constant communication via email. This superb service contined when we arrived, the lady reperesentive spoke good English and could not do enough to help anyone. She regulary booked our table at local restuarants, arranged days out, train tickets and even helped one resident with his parking fines!! We found the costs very reasonable compared to other countries in Europe with the property being of a much higher standard. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Would we recommend this to anyone else?? The answer has to be yes, but we have withheld writing this report until our own booking for 2005 had been confirmed!! Things to do in this areaBecause of its situation, the whole of Tuscany is at your doorstep. We only stayed for seven days but visited the following places: Florence Siena Lucca (twice as the bike ride on the city walls is superb for all ages) Volterra Bologne Marrenelo (Ferrari factory) This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
