October 2004, 1 week

This is the third time we have stayed at Sant' Antonio and we will return. We love it here. The rental units vary in size and furnishings but all are nice. Nico, the owner, is refurbishing some of the units with new furniture, kitchens and heating. The old ones are great - the new ones are beautiful. You can't go wrong.

Nico, as other reviewers have said, is a warm, caring man who is commited to giving his clients a memorable vacation experience. The property is lovely with views over the Tuscany hillside, vineyards and new olive groves. There are barbecue facilities scattered throughout the property.

We have daytripped many places from here.

The property is very private. It is this privacy and serenity that allows for ultimate relaxation. There is a lovely pool. Nico lives on the property with his wife and two absolutely adorable children.

Nearby Amenities

Sant' Antonio is 1.5 km outside of Montepulciano and a car is necessary to travel to it and other Tuscan/Umbria cities. Because the property is in the countryside, walking places is not feasible. However a Conad grocery store, small green grocers, butchers, etc. and restaurants are just a 3 minute drive into Montepuliciano.

The House/Apartment

The property was a monastery until the beginning of this century when the monks moved to another location not far away from Sant' Antonio. It is very well maintained as Nico is very proud of it and is constantly brainstorming ways to improve it and amenities to add. I believe that there are 10 units of varing sizes.

There are sitting areas scattered throughout the property with each unit having access to private areas. As I stated earlier, there are several barbecue facilities. There are broad expenses of lawn, large trees, flowers and shubbery. There is a very nice pool area with quality lounge chairs and umbrellas.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture is in good shape. Nico is in the processing of replacing some of it. The units are clean and well-maintained. There is more than adequate seating.

Beds are comfortable and the bedding is of high quality. The bathrooms are wonderful - beautifully tiled and modern.

The kitchen do not have ovens or microwaves due to some bureaucratic problems with delivering services from Montepuliciano. Other than that there are full kitchens and a good supply of cooking utensils and pans. If you find there is something you want that is not there, a word to Nico will assure that you will get it.

Problems or Bonuses

The bonus is Nico, himself - a delightful, gracious person. He grew up in Kenya as his father oversaw hotels and safari lodging there. He is fluent in several languages. His background is in hotel and restaurant management. The other bonus is his wonderful children. Filippo and Sofia are some of the most beautiful children I have ever seen.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Yes, we absolutely recommend Sant' Antonio. Many people have gone here based on our recommendations and all have been more than pleased, reporting the same things we say. I have never met or talked with anyone who was not absolutely pleased with their experience.

Things to do in this area

There are many towns and villages that can be visited from here - in addition to the delights of exploring Montepulciano - Montelcino, Pienza, Orvieto (Umbria), Cetona, Serteano, Cortona, and so on. The many restaurants in the area are reported in the restaurant review section.
