3bed/3bath apartment in Lucca, Tuscany North WhenOctober 2004, one week LocationLocated within the walled city of Lucca. It is in an area with a number of apartments and private homes. The apartment itself is in a building of several apartments. Ok area although not "picturesque". Nearby AmenitiesWithin walking distance (15 minutes of the center of Lucca). Nearest supermarket is a walk of about 20-30 minutes. Other food stores just around the corner. Restaurants in Lucca all within walking distance. The House/ApartmentThe building is an historical building but extensively remodeled, at least in the San Nicolao apartment. The apartment had many benefits: very large and would be convenient for large family with small children. Washing machine is in apartment. Apartment is fairly dark if you do not have shutters opened. Lighting is acceptable but not great. GardenNo garden or outside sitting area. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasFurnishings were fine including play pen and toys for young children. Very clean, lots of space. Bedrooms/BathroomsKing size bed in largest bedroom with a bath (with shower) en suite. Second bedroom has king size bed and is quite large. Third bedroom has twin beds. The second bathroom is close to those two bedrooms. Shower in the second bath. The third bath is located near the kitchen and also has a shower. KitchenKitchen is well-equipped and fine for cooking meals. We used it only for breakfast and preparing Italian snacks to absorb with wine. Problems or BonusesThere was a leak in the roof in the kitchen. Had only one bath towel per person which we advised the owner was not sufficient. They didn't respond whether they would remedy that situation. Agency and Representatives (and price)Roberto doesn't speak English, Linda does. The apartment was pretty much as advertised. We had a difficult time contacting them before leaving the states because their computer was sick. Had to search for phone number on-line. Managed to contact Roberto's mother who was kind enough to give us Roberto and Linda's phone number. This caused some concern because our only means of contact was the internet. I would suggest getting their phone number (both home and cell). Price was right in our opinion - 500 euros for the three of us. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Yes we would stay there again. While there is local bus service available near the apartment, the walk into town may be taxing to some. We made the trip several times a day. The train station is a 30 minute walk and we used the trains quite extensively. Things to do in this areaWonderful town to just become part of daily life. Great to sit in sidewalk cafes and enjoy the passing parade. We took the train to Pisa, Florence, an overnight to Rome but thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere in Lucca. Two restaurant we loved: Ristorante Giglio in the piazza of the same name ... wonderful lamb; and Il Magnifico in Piazza San Francesco ... a different menu from typical trattoria.
