sleeps 15, villa near Montalcino (house and separate garden apartment), Tuscany South WhenSummer 2001, 1 week ReviewI recently celebrated my 40th birthday with friends at Villa Montelandi south of Siena near Montalcino in Tuscany. We were there from June 30th to July 7th of this summer (2001). The setting was absolutely beautiful. It was located off the main road on a hilltop overlooking the Tuscan hills. The peace, quiet and seclusion made it the most relaxing vacation I've ever had. The villa was large enough to accommodate our group in comfort. There was a rustic charm that added to the feeling of being completely removed from the world. The pool area allowed you a view of the hills as the sheep were herded by amazingly intelligent sheep dogs. There was a lawn area with croquet and other yard games. Our favorite places were the vine covered arbor where we had breakfast and dinner overlooking the sunset; and the arched terrace/porch on the first level of the house where we had wine and paid homage to the beautiful night sky. The interior was comfortable with a full working kitchen, large living room and large dining room. Several bedrooms and baths made it convenient for everyone and the downstairs apartment was spacious with wonderful terra cotta floors and large french doors. Not everything was perfect or Americanized modern, but it did not impact the enjoyment of the house. The staff and agent for the villa were more than helpful. There was information on the surrounding area, restaurants and catering information. Our agent Zak arranged a wonderful birthday dinner in the near by town, complete with birthday cake. Our deposit was promptly refunded upon my return to the states, making that final lasting impression of professionalism. It was a memorable experience for all of us and we would highly recommend the agency and location to anyone. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
