Review 1314: Owner, Apartment Alba

Review by tim from Canada

1bed/1bath apartment in Todi, Umbria

Jan - Feb 2005, 2 weeks

This wonderful apartment is located right off the main Piazza of Todi. An excellent location yet private.

Nearby Amenities

The following were all within five minutes walking distance: grocery stores, shops, bars, restaurants, laundry, banks with ATMs, local and long distance bus service. The is also a large supermarket about twenty minutes walk downhill.

The House/Apartment

The apartment is newly renovated in a 200 year old building. It was very quiet. The owners live upstairs.

There is a small balcony off the main room that you could sit out on but it is quite small. There are lovely parks also within walking distance.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

All the furniture was in good shape and comfortable. The only thing that did not work was the exhaust fan above the stove.

The apartment was spotless when I arrived. There is a sofa bed in the main room, a combination living room kitchen, dining room as well as a set of book shelves, TV, dinning table and extra table and two chairs.

The bedroom had a comfortable matrimonial bed, a chest of drawers and two more chairs. The bathroom is very large with an excellent shower and great water pressure.

The kitchen is very modern and comes with a gas stove top, electric oven, full size refrigerator/freezer and dishwasher. The counter tops are granite and there is plenty of room to prepare full meals. It is well stocked with pots and pans and dishes and glasses and cutlery.

Problems or Bonuses

The owners make a wonderful apartment even more wonderful by their kindness and personalities. I loved every minute I spent in Todi and I did not have a car. I used the good bus/train service to do day trips to Perugia, Assisi, Spello, Spoleto, Aquasparta, San Gemini and Terni. With a little planning it was no trouble.

Todi itself is magical and there is plenty to see there. Just waundering around could fill days. The tourist office is very helpful. Be aware that Todi is one of the highest hill towns in Umbria so walking involves either going uphill or downhill. I love to walk so it was no problem but it is steep. There are local buses for city travel, but I only used them to connect to the train station. Also be prepared to do hand laundry washing (there is a drying rack in the apartment) unless you want to spend a fortune. The laundry is not self service and is quite expensive.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Let me repeat, I would come back to this lovely city and wonderful apartment in a second and hope to do so.
