apartments and cottage on an estate near Montepulciano, Tuscany South WhenOctober 2004, 1 week LocationWe rented a separate cottage on the grounds of Sant'Antonio (there is also a bigger building with large townhouse apartments). The location is very convenient, close to Montepulciano, but not in the town (approximately a 5-7 minute drive) and the views from the property are very nice. You do see a few other houses around, but they are also old and do not spoil the view but rather blend into it. There are fields, vineyards and a small forest on the hill and in a distance. Nearby AmenitiesThe car is necessary: the nearest coffee shop or pizzeria is 5 minute drive away, but the road is not good for walking. Montepulciano (5 minute drive) has a supermarket, Saturday farmers' market and many shops in the old part of the city. The House/ApartmentThe property is very old and very carefully and meticiously renovated. The cottage itself was recently built, but in the style of the surroundings, and combines all the conveniencies of the modernity with authentic feeling of the old Italy. It is very thoughfully planned and has everything necessary for a comfortable stay, including all the cooking you might want to do. The place was really quiet and at night you hear only occasional birds chirping. However, we were there in October, with only a very few guests on the whole property, so I can not really say anything about the high season. GardenThe cottage had a private outside area, with BBQ, table and chairs for outside eating. The property has a nice pool with a nice view from it, but in October it was too cold to swim. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe house, furniture and bedding were very clean and comfortable. The cottage had one bedroom, a living room/dining room and a kitchen. The bathroom is quite large (only a shower, no bathtub). Agency and Representatives (and price)We initially contacted Nico by email based on reviews we read on the Slow Travel website and the things we read on his website. They replied very fast, and were very helpful and pleasant to communicate with. As we traveled with a 2 year boy, they put a crib in our cottage, and made everything possible to make our stay really enjoyable. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Yes, we would recommend staying there and if we go to Tuscany, we will certainly stay there ourselves again. I am sure than all the effort and love that Nico and his family are putting in this place will make it even better next time. For people who are looking for a nice self-catering place to stay in Tuscany this is a very good choice. Things to do in this areaI can add really little to all the descriptions that are already on your website. For some strange reason, we did not like Tuscany as much as many people do. It is not a fault of our accommodation, and I must say that we liked Saint'Antonio place so much that we certainly need another trip to check if our first impression of Tuscany overall was wrong indeed.
