2bed/1bath apartment in Trastevere, Rome

April 2005, one week

The location was excellent. One minute walk to Santa Marie in Trastevere, two minute walk to Ponte Sisto, close to many restaurants, and just barely out of the noise and congestion of the historical center.

Nearby Amenities

A grocery store was about a five minute walk. Many restaurants within two minute walk. Several bars within a two minute walk.

The House/Apartment

The apartment building was old but in good shape there were about eight apartments in the building. The apartment was quiet.

There was a very small balcony that looked on a empty internal courtyard, but between the heater and storage of items there was no place to sit, one person could stand.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was comfortable and in good shape. There were enough chairs for everyone in the living/dining area. The apartment wasn't clean.

The beds were comfortable but the bedrooms were very small. The bathroom was also small but functional although not very clean.

The kitchen sideboard stuck out so there was less than 18 inches between it and the refrigerator, your walkway into the kitchen. The pots and pans needed a good scrubbing and the door under the sink was off its hinge. The sideboard had a tile top but many of the tiles were loose or cracked. We didn't cook because everything was too dirty.

Problems or Bonuses

The master bedroom had no door because there was no wall only a curtain between it and the hallway. Two pieces of furniture separated the bedroom from the hall with a very narrow space to get into the bedroom. You had to be careful entering the bedroom because there was a board fastened to the floor about one inch high that ran the length of the hall in front of the curtain. Stepping over this board you had to be careful not to step in the hole where a tile was missing and some substructure was removed. There was little place to put your clothes since the some of the drawers in the dresser were full and there was no closet or armoire to hang things.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The agency was easy to deal with and the onsite person spoke very good English. I don't think that the web accurately reflected the apartment. We paid 800 euro for a week in April.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

While I don't consider this place a dump it is headed that way. I would not recommend this apartment to anyone.
