Review 1416: Cuendet, Sant Ellero

Review by triton42 from MI

2bed/2bath house on an estate, Tuscany Chianti

4/23/2005 - 4/30/2005, 1 week

We stayed at Sant Ellero, the last week of April. When we arrived the weather was fairly cool and somewhat cloudy. After a couple of days the clouds broke and we had lots of sun and warmer weather.

We chose Ellero for it's location and price. We did not have a pool, but it was too early to use it anyway. We had a huge patio with chairs and a table that we could relax on and take in the beautiful scenery day and night. The location was in the country and was extremely peaceful and quiet. Yet, just a few minutes away was the four lane road that ran between Florence and Siena. Our house was comfortably furnished and provided a great place to stay during our week in Italy.

Our host, Francesco was great! He spoke some English and did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. The best part was the wine grown in the vineyards surrounding the villa. Towards the end of the week, Francesco's Father gave us a tour of the ground floor of the house and showed us how they made the wine.

We watched the sunset from our bedroom window and the sunrise over the valley from our huge patio. A few of the mornings there were hot air baloons to the south.

We travelled each day exploring the area. Our day trips included Pisa, Florence, Siena, the Chianti region, Valderno valley and mountains and Scarperia and Fiesole. Most evenings we arrived home before dark and cooked our own supper and enjoyed a bottle of wine from our days journey.

A few of our great finds were the Bruneschelli castle in VicoPisano, the swing bridge in Mammiano and the wine tasting cellar in in Greve, next to the COOP. The only thing we would change next time our of the whole week would be to take the train into Florence and leave the car at home!

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Italy and would highly reccomend Sant Ellero to anyone looking for a great house for a fair price in an incredibly beautiful location.
