Review 143: Bevagna Apartments, Bevagna Apartments
apartments in Bevagna, Umbria
Fall 2001, 1 week
We stayed in an apartment in "downtown" Bevagna for a week in late September - early October. The Enotaca Piazza Onofri, a fine ristorante, is located on the groung floor of the building. The owner of the enoteca, a friend of a friend, now has thirteen newly remodeled apartments in the neighborhood.
We stayed in the same apartment a year or so ago when the paint was still wet. (They moved the tv in as we were unpacking.)
Since the apartments are, essentially, brand new facilities in old buildings, the bathroom fixtures and kitchen appliances are generous and up to date. Our unit was on the first floor (second in the US) and was a large living/dining room with a kitchen on the wall near the entrance. A separate bedroom had the bath off of it.
The plusses are its location (50 meters from the main passagetta street with shopping, sights, etc. right there) and its general comfort. Minuses would be the smallish windows (with no views) and sort of stingy lighting.
We have grown to feel comfortable in Bevagna and will stay there for another week this spring. Although we have reserved an apartment at La Casa Giallo (mentioned, of course, on this web site's message board) we certainly recommend not only the enoteca for great food and wine, but also the apartments for comfort and convenience.
