Studio apartment in Trastevere, Rome WhenApril 2005, 4 days LocationThis apartment is in the Trastevere section of Rome, in a big apartment building. The location is great, very close to the heart of Trastevere. I love this area. Nearby AmenitiesThere are places to get anything you could possibly want in the area, from a steak at a butchers to health foods to great wines to baked goods. And there are restaurants everywhere. The House/ApartmentThe building is in OK shape - it is an active apartment building full of tenants, not tourists. Though it says it is quiet on the agency website, the apartment is NOT quiet due to the noise of the building. There is an old elevator (the kind with the metal gates) that makes a tremendous amount of noise, and because the apartment is just off a courtyard that all seems to echo. GardenNo outside sitting area, no pool. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThis is someone's apartment, vacated when you get there. So there are CDs, books, food, etc. all around. It was not very clean - especially the bathroom. I am not usually squeamish about that stuff, but feel the need to point it out. The armoir and the table and chairs, and a little couch were all fine, nothing too fancy, but I wasn't expecting fancy. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe bed is comfortable and cozy. It is in a loft, above the rest of the apartment. The bathroom... hmmm, see above. KitchenThe kitchen is small, but very usable. There were lots of pots, pans and dishes, of decent quality. I think you could cook a full meal in it. Problems or BonusesThis is the first time I've had a sort of negative experience in an apartment rental ... so I feel bad writing about it! I think the owner has good intentions but the apartment is just too noisy (because of the elevator and some noisy neighboring tenants). There are lots of things to eat for breakfast, but as you are clearly in someone's home, you don't feel comfortable eating them, and there is no note that says to go ahead. The TV is kind of lame but there is a great stereo and lots of CDs. Seriously, you feel like you are crashing in someone's pad, so if you have no problem with that, this would be a cool place. I did feel totally safe there and the owner left some flowers, plus his brother who let me in was really cute. Bonuses! Agency and Representatives (and price)The agency was great and they are well respected and none of this should be held against them, though I think they should take "this place is quiet" off their site. The rent is 90 Euro a night, a bit high I think, for what I got. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?No... I would not stay here again and would not recommend it. Sorry B & B Rome! Things to do in this areaThere are so many things to do in Trastevere, many great bars with interesting people, fantastic restaurants, and a twenty minute walk to the other side. I don't think I need to write about how cool Trastevere is - you already know! This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
