5bed/4bath house near Mercatale, Umbria WhenMay 21 - 28 2005, 1 week LocationCasa Lucatti is located high on a hill top overlooking the Niccone valley. There is one neighbor located quite near the main house but their house is oriented in such a way as to be unobtrusive. We have rented in the general area several times and find it ideal. Nearby AmenitiesIf there was one drawback to this property, it is that it is a hike to the nearest town for shopping. Mercatale, with a good grocery, bar and butcher is just 5-10 minutes down the road from the house ... only problem being it takes 15 minutes to get to the road! Very steep winding gravel road with several blind curves. Not a big problem, just plan your day so you only leave the house once. Umbertide, a good sized town with a Coop, fresh pasta store and just about anything else you would need is 15 minutes headed in the oposite direction. The House/ApartmentThis property actually consists of two separate buildings that are a few yards apart. The main house has 4 bedrooms and 3 baths. The 2 upstairs bedrooms are connected and share a bath and would be most suitable for a couple with young children. The second house has one bedroom with bath, a livingroom, beautifully fitted kitchen and a large veranda overlooking the valley and the pool. This is a typical stone restructed farm house property, revovated with high quality materials and all the modern conveniences one could ask for. This is a SWELL place that an extended family or group of friends can enjoy. GardenNice yard and garden with lots of flowering plants and bushes. Good pool with chairs, chaises, umbrellas etc. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasHouse is in excellent shape with luxurious furnishings. Clean and roomy. My wife stated she could never rent this house if it were ours. Bedrooms/BathroomsVery comfy nice bedrooms with luxurious bathrooms. Kitchen2 kitchens! better equipped than ours at home. High quality all the way. Problems or BonusesOne of our group speaks Italian and met our neighbor (who speaks no English). They invited us over for coffee the last night we were there. We arrived and were told First, you must have a little of my wine ... a couple bottles later we had coffee and desert and had to decline the Grappa! They are a working family with a handicapped 17 year old daughter who is lovely and were touched that we brought them some small gifts. I am touched that they invited us stangers into there home. It is that kind of serendipitous event that makes for the best memories. Agency and Representatives (and price)I have used this agency several times with great results. I think that they have excellent properties and have the best prices in the area. This 5 BR property in late May was less than $2,000 per week.
