apartments on a farm near Pienza, Tuscany South WhenMay 2005, our friends stayed there - we were nearby, one week LocationLa Cretaiole is about 10 minutes drive from Pienza. It is on a farm, very private with lovely views. Nearby AmenitiesA car is required as Pienza is the closest town for shopping. The House/ApartmentIt is an historic stone building divided into apartments ranging in size from sleeping 2 people up to 8. The building is constructed around a cobble stone internal courtyard. At the end of the building is a large covered verandah with climbing roses, for all guests use. GardenThe garden is gorgeous - large pots of colourful flowers everwhere, big lawns - lots of lawn furniture. It is a very child friendly place and a huge collection of children's toys, climbing frames, a tent, swings etc. are left on the site permanently for childrens' use. There is a large vegetable garden available for guest's use - nothing like picking fresh lettuce, rocket, spinach, herbs for dinner each night! Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe studio apartment was compact but comfortable. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe apartment is a studio, so it's really one large room, with adjoining bathroom. The bed sits under a large "stable door" window that can be opened up to the view. KitchenThe kitchen was amazingly compact - really a kitchen in a cupboard! But it had everything required and we cooked a number of meals for 4 people. Problems or BonusesWe actually stayed at another location near Pienza and our friends stayed here - but we spent all of our time (expect for sleeping) here. It was a wonderfully welcoming place with great atmosphere. The owner, Isabella, is fantastic! She organises "activities" for her guests including tours of the Etrucscan Tomb on the family farm (amazing!!) guided tours of Siena for those who choose them, pasta making classes (and meals) and a fabulous dinner for all guests at a mystery location. She "adopted" us as we were unhappy with the place we were staying and included us in all activities with our friends. She even gave us a bottle of the local wine - all guests receive bottles of wine and olive oil. Agency and Representatives (and price)While the actual accommodation and ambience of Cretaiole is wonderful, Isabella is the secret ingredient that makes it stand out from other places! She is a true host and her energy for her guests and ensuring that everyone has a wonderful stay is inspiring! Cretaiole only rents by the week. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?This place gets my highest recommendation! It is ideally located, is full of ambience, has everything you need for a holiday in the country and it has Isabella to make sure you enjoy yourself! Don't hesitate to visit!
