Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 1536: Casa Maresca, Apartment
apartments in Positano, Campania
October 2004, 1 week
This apartment is on the road down into Positano. It is very convenient to walk down to the main town but there are also restaurants and stores nearby. Since it is below the road, you have an unobstructed view of the sea. (The one-lane road is one-way into the town, so it isn't like being on a freeway.)
You can walk to a wonderful store for groceries and wine and cheeses, etc. Very close. Restaurants are everywhere - and it is quite exciting to sit there, looking out at the view with cars passing quite close ... The nearest restaurant is just across the street.
This is not an historical building. It has been renovated recently (at least the upstairs unit where we stayed) and was very comfortable. The living room is not a place you would spend much time, but it has a very roomy kitchen with gorgeous views and each bedroom had french doors out to a balcony and you could lie in bed and watch the view. There are units below the one we were in and some friends stayed in a studio that had the same views but no kitchen. We were all glad to be there.
The upstairs unit has a lovely patio with vines covering it that looks out to the sea with chairs and a table. It was a private area and had a gate that locked it off so it was available only to us. If there was a pool, we didn't see it. 400 steps down to the beach (and back up..)
Furniture was fine. There were four of us so we had plenty of chairs; and we had friends and acquaintances over for dinner and ate outside where 8 of us fit just fine.
Beds were comfortable and the baths were great! Each bedroom had their own large bathroom with bathtub and shower, etc.
Good kitchen. When we cooked for 8, we borrowed larger pans from the owners, who are very nice and helpful.
Problems or Bonuses
It was a nice surprise that being so close to the road was no problem and we felt so lucky that we had found this place. It was easy walking to and from town and easy walking up to catch the bus to other towns.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
We dealt directly with Paul, who is English. He and his wife, who is Italian, live on the property and are very helpful and nice.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We would definitely stay here again. It is not a luxury hotel - but the view is spectacular and the people are nice and it is in a very convenient location. The unit where we stayed is very private and we enjoyed every minute we were there.
Things to do in this area
Shopping is great there - and the restaurants are nice. I can't think of any that I would particularly recommend. Paul did arrange for a taxi(?) ride up the mountain at night to an interesting restaurant that we enjoyed. It was actually a little bus that took people to several different restaurants up at the top where you look down on Positano as if you were in an airplane. Fun to do.
