Review 1564: Venice Rentals, San Aponal

Review by Tabitha from Canada

1bed/1bath apartment near Rialto Bridge, Venice

October 2004, 4 days

The location was outstanding. It was close to a vaparetto stop, but we walked almost everywhere. Very close to the Rialto bridge, and just another 5-10 minutes to St. Mark's square. We felt close to pretty much everything and even walked to the train station on our final day without much complication.

Nearby Amenities

There is an ATM right downstairs from the apartment and grocery store right near that. The woman who met us showed us nearby amenties, recommended a nearby restaurant (which was excellent food and well priced for Venice), and recommended areas for us to visit, all of which were easy to get to.

The House/Apartment

The building was in good shape and the apartment itself was quite plain but very clean and very comfortable. There is a beautiful view of the Venice rooftops from the living room window, and we heard the church bells clearly on Sunday - what a treat to wake up to. The apartment was surprisingly quiet given there was quite a busy restaurant just down the way. We had no concerns with noise.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Furniture was in pretty good shape. The couch in the living room was a little lumpy and worn out, but nothing too bad.

The bed was comfortable - we slept fine without any concerns. The bathroom was well kept and clean - a treat after the one we experienced in Florence a few weeks later!

Kitchen was just great. Small espresso pot where we made our morning coffees, and a toaster for the tonnes of toast and Nutello we ate.

Problems or Bonuses

As noted by the agency, there are a lot of stairs going up to the apartment since it is on the top floor of the building. But, it wasn't anything of any problem for us, but could be for older folks or those with bad legs.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We corresponded with Denise via e-mail in the selection of the apt. and she was always prompt and helpful with her responses. One of her reps met us at the nearby vaparetto and took us to the apartment and showed us around the area. That was a very nice touch and meant a lot to us.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would definitely recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a comfortable, quiet place to sleep. If you are looking for a 'high style' experience, this isn't the place for you. But, if you are looking for a clean, decent place in a Venetian neighbourhood (as opposed to a tourist area), this is a wonderful place.

Things to do in this area

Rialto bridge is close by, St. Mark's isn't much further (maybe another 10 minute walk). As you leave the apartment, there is a restaurant just past the grocery store on the right hand side that has a few benches outside as well as indoor eating (sorry, can't remember the name now). It had great food and really reasonable prices.
