Review 1581: Venice Rentals, San Aponal/Rialto Apartment
1bed/1bath apartment, San Silvestro, Venice
June 2005, 1 week
A short walk from the San Silvestro vaporetto stop, a few minutes walk to the Rialto. It is a bustling area but it still has a neighborhood feel.
There is a grocery store and bank machine just steps away. Morning coffee and pastery at the Pasticceria Rizzardini is highly recommended, it's always crowded but there is order within the chaos and everything is delicious. It's very close, walk toward San Toma and you will see it on the left.
There are many good, reasonable (by Venice standards) places to eat in the neighborhood. Our favorites are Vivaldi (walk toward San Toma and it's on the left) which is great for cichetti and/or dinner, Antico Dolo (near the Rialto) and da Sandro (just past Rizzardini's) which has the best arugula pizza!
Best of all is the Rialto market, just a short walk away.
I think that there are two other apartments in the building, we never saw the other tenants. The apartment is on the 3rd floor and very private. You can hear noise from the street below (it is a main thoroughfare) but the apartment is quite high up and so this did not bother us at all.
There is no outside area but there are wonderful rooftop views from all rooms, including a distant view of the campanile from the living room.
The apartment is not at all fancy, but it is very comfortable and clean. There is a small dining table, several chairs and a small sofa. There is a small washing machine, iron and ironing board. Neither the TV nor the radio seemed to work when we were there. This didn't bother us but it might be something to check on.
The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was clean and adequate. The water pressure in the shower is quite weak.
The kitchen was adequate and we found everything that we needed to prepare simple meals.
Problems or Bonuses
The apartment was exactly as described and pictured on the website.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Booking through the website was very easy. We were met at the vaporetto stop by a friendly represetative of the agency. She gave us a quick tour of the neighborhood and the apartment and provided us with a map and other useful information.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We would recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a simple, reasonable, comfortable, clean apartment in a wonderful neighborhood. It is up 3 flights of steps, the last flight quite steep, so it would not be a good choice for someone who has difficulty climbing stairs.
Things to do in this area
It's Venice!!! Everything is nearby!! We got vaporetto passes and loved being able to hop on and off the boats on a whim. We especially enjoyed cruising the Grand and Guidecca canals at night. Venice is an amazing place, it would take many weeks to explore it properly!
