Review 1589: La Colombaia, Apartment

Review by Lisa F from Scotland

apartments in Todi, Umbria

July 2005, 1 week

La Colombaia is set on the hillside just 8 minutes walk from the centre of Todi and one of Todi's most famous landmarks - Tempio di S Maria della Consolazione - is virtually in the back garden. Although the owners live directly beside you, La Colombaia offers very private accommodation with spectacular views.

The area around Todi is breathtakingly beautiful, and the apartment offers a fantastic view over the hills.

Nearby Amenities

All amenities are within easy reach by foot, although it is preferable to have a car if you wish to visit the area surrounding Todi as the station is a 10 minute bus journey and the buses do not always correspond with the trains.

The House/Apartment

La Colombaia is a converted building with masses of character. Whilst retaining the historical feel, the owners have equipped the property with every modern convenience - right down to the white waffle bathrobes and wonderful stone shower.

There are another two apartments on the same block, accommodating between two and four people, but whilst we were there were no other occupants which allowed us total privacy.

There is a small area at the front of the apartment with a table and chairs where we spent some lovely slow lunches and a terrace at the rear with a small garden which offers fabulous views of the setting sun in the evenings.

Although there is no pool, there is a hotel 5 minutes walk away which allows guests of La Colombaia to use their pool if they have lunch there.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The apartment was spotless and all furnishings had obviously been chosen with care.

We slept very well in the apartment, and the bedroom also has a lovely view over the hills which is fantastic to wake up to. The bathroom is a spectacularly modern affair with a beautiful stone tiled shower.

The kitchen, although small, is well equipped with all conveniences including a juicer and coffee-maker. Although perhaps not suitable for cooking large-scale dinners we managed to rustle up three very good pasta-based dinners during our stay there.

Problems or Bonuses

We were completely overwhelmed by the generosity of the landlords, Riccardo and Petra, who did everything possible to ensure that our stay in La Colombaia was a happy one.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Riccardo and Petra were extremely helpful in advising us on places to see and things to do. Their attendance to detail to the things that really matter to people on holiday was very special and much appreciated.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would recommend La Colombaia to anyone who is looking for a peaceful location yet with plenty of things to do nearby and beautiful, comfortable accommodation.

Things to do in this area

Nearby attractions are Perugia with its Jazz Festival in July; Spoleto, again with its July festival; Norcia - a great hillside retreat. We can also thoroughly recommend Pane e Vino in Todi for a delicious reasonably priced meal.
